Final Score 40-49. Win for the boys 2023

A lovely afternoon for this annual event with the girls hoping to retain the trophy. Unfortunately we could only get 9 ladies to play and therefore the match was over 3 rinks this year. A lot of chat and laughs and groans from both sides could be heard. Photos and presentations took place, with Rod and his team being presented with the Corbett Cup. This year the Corbett Cup was also in memory of past members who have sadly passed away in the last year. Liz Cockerill kindly donated the beautiful hydrangea for the spider which was won by Chris Amos. Joe opened the bar and cakes and biscuits provided finishing the afternoon on a very happy note.

6 July 2023 - Away against Wicklewood

19 May 2023 - Away against Cringleford

It was a pleasant warm evening last Monday when we played at Cringleford Bowls Club. It took us some time to adjust to the fast green which was in excellent condition but we all soon rose to the challenge winning 3 out of the 4 rinks.

We scored a 2 in the first end but Cringleford took 5 in 2nd and 1 in the 3rd but we then got 5 in the 4th end and by the 8th end we led by 6 – 12. On the 12th end we scored another 5 boosting our score to 10-18. Final score 14-18 win.

Rink 2 Lead Roger Symonds No 2 Chris Blazeby Skip Liz Cockerill

A good start winning the first 4 ends, but Cringleford got a 4 and a 3 and led 8 – 5 by the 7th end. The second half was much better for Gt Melton winning 7 out of the last 9 ends finishing with a 11 – 15 win.

Both sides were only scoring a 1 and by the 8th end we were level 4 all. On the 9th end we took a 4 and the 12th we scored 6 giving us a good lead of 5 – 15. The green was fast and our woods played like we were bowling on an inside rink. Final score 8 – 19

22 May 2023 - Home against Wymondham Priory

4 May 2023 - Home against Wicklewood

Our first match of the summer against Wicklewood, the evening looked as though the rain would stay away and other than a sprinkling for 15 minutes it was fine with a lovely red sunset as the sun went down. Unfortunately we could not give Wicklewood refreshments due to the Pavilion being in use for Local Election Voting. Having spoken to Clive it was decided we would go ahead with the match as planned. A most pleasant evening with familiar faces and we look forward to the return match in July.

Rink 1 Roger Symonds, Jane Baker, Keith Richards

Not a very good start with only winning one end in first 6, so we were down 1-7. On the 7th end we scored a 4 which gave us some encouragement to catch the opposition up. Then on 10th end a score of 7 gave Gt Melton the lead 12-8. After 13 ends we ere still in front 14-12 but Wicklewood took 2 on final end resulting in a draw 14-14.

Rink 2 Liz Cockerell, Derek Sutton, Joe Huckle

The first 5 ends were evenly matched with both sides scoring so after 5 ends we were 5-4 up. We then got a 3 on 7th end and 5 on 9th end giving Gt Melton a lead of 15-6. We did not win another end from 10th to 13th but maintained our lead 15-10. But on the final end Wicklewood managed to get 6 and so won the game 15-16.

Rink 3 Bill Hunter, Neil Smart, John Turner

Another closely fought match but with Gt Melton trailing until 8th end when we scored 4 giving us the lead 8-6 and on 10th end we were level 8-8. Wicklewood managed a score if 1 on 12th end and we ended with a good win of 12-9.

Rink 4 Trevor Cooper, Mel Sutton, Rod Yellop

We started off well and at the 5th end we were 8-1 up. Between 6th and 14th ends we only managed to score a 2 whereas Wicklewood were winning each end. So after a good start we lost 10-12.
